Lee O. Koenig, was sentenced Monday morning for a term of not less than 19 years and not more than 20 at the Nebraska Correctional Center in Lincoln for the Nov. 17, 1007 fatal shooting of Russell Christiansen of Wahoo.
In August, Koenig stood in Saunders County District Court and, through an agreement with the prosecution, pled guilty to manslaughter. In exchange for his guilty plea, the charge of a felon in possession of a firearm was dropped. He had been previously convicted on federal drug charges.
Koenig will have to serve at least 9 1/2 years of this current conviction before being eligible for parole. He was given credit for 324 days already served in jail.
Koenig was arrested the same day that the shooting took place on acreage near Yutan.
Following the shooting, Koenig told law enforcement officials that he was aware that Christiansen and his son were hunting on the acreage
