CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - The Nevada Supreme Court has refused to allow public votes in November on two tax-shifting plans and a third tax-restricting plan backed by casino mogul Sheldon Adelson.
A ruling Thursday invalidates a proposal to divert room tax money from the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority to public education.
It stops a related plan to take convention authority revenue and spend it on education, transportation and public safety.
And it kills a third proposal to require a two-thirds vote to approve ballot measures that raise taxes.
Petitioners argued Secretary of State Ross Miller overstepped his authority in rejecting the plans in May on grounds that they failed to meet petition-verification requirements imposed by the 2007 Legislature
